New Sierra Leone Peoples Party North America (NSLPP/NA)
After the loss of the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections of 2007 in Sierra Leone, concerned members of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party living in America started pushing for a restructuring and reforming agenda to overhaul the party, broaden membership across all fifty sates plus the District of Columbia and Canada, make the party financially viable to meet its obligations, and put forth a formidable opposition in Sierra Leone, Come 2012.
The like-minded members in favor of restructure and reform were unofficially known as the “Reform, progressive-wing” of the party in North America.
These initiatives met vehement resistance from the “Old SLPP” with an executive that lacked integrity, character, accountability, and transparency; hence they preferred the status-quo. Instead of objectively assessing what changes could be made within the party structure to strengthen it, they got into personality mud slinging and attacked progressive recommendations as “power hungry, character assassination, enemies of the party, and anti-SLPP.”
Issues of grave importance that needed to be addressed were swept under the rug. Rather than being forthright with other members, they continued in being manipulative, deceptive, and tricksters.
They continue to mis-manage the Branch’s finance, spending huge amounts to finance patronage positions back home, without notifying the Membership. This anti-progressive cabal, continue to spread propaganda and fear, within, this Party Branch.
Two words, “accountability and transparency” invoked so much fear and anger within the rank and file of the old SLPP; they resulted to playing games with pressing issues that affected the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
Ultimately, the question became “Should we continue to play these unproductive games with “Old SLPP”, or put progressive minds together to genuinely address the needs of our people in Sierra Leone?”
The obvious answer is the birth, of the New Sierra Leone Peoples Party North America (NSLPP/NA) on Friday December 28, 2007 by the Reform, Progressive-Wing.
