I've discussed this topic with Bob Henderson in the past; I don't remember the conversation word-for-word, but in all his years of "hortulanus complex" field work, he's encountered less that 5 (if my memory serves correctly) individuals on the ground.

I've used some heavily cluttered cages over the years, and even now have some Zoo-Med cages with a lot of cover at ground level, but have always found them to prefer perching in the upper rear corners of their enclosures.

Take a look at these set-ups (spanning aprox 15 years from the old photo to the new current photos), do you think these "push" them up to the perches?
